Lauren Fazio, LCSW
Licensed Clinician | she/hers
It certainly is not a requirement for a therapist to have lived experience and certainly every experience is unique, but oh man, does that “I see you” in perinatal focused therapy hit differently when your therapist has walked through those dark, lonely, scary places of pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting too.
As a therapist, I bring an expertise in perinatal issues as well as a trauma-informed, attachment, antiracist lens to individual therapy sessions. Specifically within perinatal work, it’s also important to lean into the lived experiences you bring to the client-therapist dynamic; I have experienced perinatal challenges as a (surprise) teen parent, through loss, and when I did everything “right” (whatever that means) in middle-age adult pregnancy. What I have found mattered most for myself and clients was finding someone to walk alongside you. We are wired for connection, and despite what the movies portray the fertility, pregnancy and/or postpartum experience to look like, it can be a time where you feel cut off from others and yourself in unexpected ways. Previous pregnancy loss and miscarriage can also impact an experience we’ve longed for.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR,) Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Seleni Institute Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders, Perinatal Loss and Grief, and Maternal Mental Health Intensive for Young Parents. I also hold evidence-based training certifications in Triple P Positive Parenting Practices and Nurturing Parenting. I utilize talk therapy, an attachment-focused lens, CBT, and strengths-based modalities. I value information sharing with clients so my approach includes ample psychoeducation and collaboration with clients and their unique support networks. We will work to include community supports so that clients are able to make the most informed decisions about their life, goals, and choices.
In addition to my work with Second Wave Counseling, I am a Child and Family Therapist and Therapeutic Services Manager at The Safe Alliance providing trauma-informed therapy to survivors of violence including children, adolescents, adults, and families referred by other SAFE programs. I have a specialized focus in providing perinatal mental health support to teen and young adult parents in individual and group capacities within the Teen Parent and Early Childhood Program at SAFE. I am an expert in trauma, cycles of violence, and attachment.
In my free time, you can find me with my family. Together, we enjoy playing with our pup, camping, road trips, playing outdoors, hiking, cheering the kids on at their various sporting events/hobbies, hosting family meals, photography, and all the home projects. I value showing my love through cooking meals that warm up your belly and making spaces comfortable and beautiful.
Trainings & Certifications
I completed specialized training through the Seleni Institute in Perinatal Mood & Anzxiety Disorders, Perinatal Loss and Grief, and the Maternal Mental Health Intensive for Young Parents. These programs deepen my ability to support parents and individuals during pregnancy, postpartum, and in navigating complex parenting experiences.
I am also certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), with additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), strengths-based approaches, and attachment-focused therapy. I hold certifications in Triple P Positive Parenting Practices and Nurturing Parenting, which provide evidence-based strategies to strengthen families and support parents across diverse circumstances.
I have extensive experience working in residential treatment centers (RTCs) and in community-based settings, providing trauma-informed therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families. My expertise includes supporting survivors of violence and individuals navigating trauma, loss, and high-stress life transitions.
