Matthew Regan

Certified Life Coach & Life Skills Specialist | he/him

Matt Regan collaborates with Second Wave Counseling to help teens and adults overcome obstacles and unlock their potential. Matthew Regan is a Certified Professional Coach with over nine years of experience guiding teens and young adults through life’s challenges. As a coach with Second Wave Counseling, Matthew helps clients break through obstacles, develop essential life skills, and build confidence to navigate their worlds more effectively. His approach is action-oriented, focusing on hands-on support and real-time problem-solving rather than traditional talk therapy. Whether it’s tackling daily routines, reducing school resistance, or creating personalized strategies for managing anxiety, Matthew meets his clients where they are—both physically and emotionally—to provide meaningful, lasting support.

Before joining Second Wave Counseling, Matthew worked at the Mind Body Collaborative as a Peer Support and Coaching Specialist, where he was part of a multidisciplinary team serving high-needs cases. His work centered on helping clients break the cycle of psychiatric hospitalizations, re-engage with their education, and regain a sense of control over their daily lives. With a deep understanding of anxiety and how it impacts functioning, Matthew worked closely with teens to help them return to school, create sustainable routines, and develop coping strategies that fit their unique needs. His ability to step into his clients’ worlds and provide real-time support has been a game-changer for those who struggle to manage overwhelming emotions and responsibilities.

Matthew also served as a coordinator at a residential treatment facility, where he was designated as the first crisis responder. In this role, he helped stabilize and organize responses to crisis situations involving teens experiencing self-harm, runaway behaviors, physical aggression, and verbal aggression. His experience in de-escalation and crisis intervention has shaped his ability to provide immediate, effective support in high-stakes situations.

Unlike traditional therapy, Matthew’s coaching is rooted in action—helping clients take tangible steps toward their goals rather than just discussing them. Whether it’s accompanying a client to a challenging appointment, practicing social interactions in real time, or establishing structured routines, Matthew provides steady, practical support to help clients find systems that work for them. His approach builds confidence, autonomy, and a sustainable path forward, turning daily struggles into opportunities for growth.

Trainings & Certifications

I am a Certified Professional Life Coach and Life Skills Specialist, with over a decade of direct care experience working one-on-one with teens and adults. My work has always been boots-on-the-ground, providing in-the-moment support and interventions tailored to each client’s needs.

I completed a Life Skills Certification, which grounds my practice in practical, hands-on strategies that bridge traditional therapy and mentoring. My expertise in crisis intervention and management was developed over years of responding to high-intensity situations, including self-harm, runaway behaviors, and aggression. I have not only attended but also led trainings in de-escalation, crisis response, and life skill development, equipping me to guide others in these critical areas.

In addition, I engage in weekly ongoing trainings to stay current in best practices and expand my ability to provide effective, action-oriented support. These consistent professional development experiences ensure I am continually refining my skills in coaching, crisis response, and client care.

Current Pursuits

I am currently focused on expanding my scope as a bridge between therapy and mentorship, deepening my work with neurodivergent teens and adults, and developing additional training opportunities to support parents, educators, and professionals in understanding how real-time skill-building can transform lives.
